What is a Bengal Cat?
A playful and smart breed brimming with vitality, the striking Bengal stands out as a contemporary, hybrid species derived from a unique lineage—a blend of a domestic cat and the exotic Asian Leopard Cat. This remarkable combination gives rise to a domestic cat that boasts a wild appearance and an adventurous spirit! Bengals are known for their remarkable intelligence and boundless energy, often displaying a playful mischievousness.
Frequently asked Questions
Bengal Temperment
The behavior of Bengal cats is influenced by their background, living conditions, and upbringing. Typically, Bengals are sociable, smart, and love to play. They enjoy the company of humans, including children, and often snuggle under blankets. They have a wide range of sounds they can make, more so than other house cats. Bengals are fans of fetch and can be amused with nearly anything. They have a unique fondness for water, happily drinking from taps, joining owners in the shower, or playing with dishwater bubbles. Owning a Bengal cat means having a lively and amusing companion for many years.
Bengal Size
Bengals, while typically the size of an average house cat, often present a slightly larger stature. Renowned for their long, muscular bodies, these cats embody strength and grace. At our cattery, we pursue excellence in their development by providing a nutritious diet enriched with top-quality supplements, aiming to nurture Bengals that lean towards the larger scale. On average, our adult females weigh between 10-14 lbs., and our males, a robust 14-18 lbs. It's worth noting, though, that there's always a chance for them to exceed or fall below these averages, just adding to their unique charm.
Hypoallergenic!
Are you a cat-lover but allergic reactions keep you at bay? Ever heard about Bengals being hypoallergenic? Yes, you heard that right! Bengals are known to produce fewer allergens than most felines, making them an excellent companion for those with cat allergies. A charming Bengal might just be the feline friend you've been searching for!
Social
Have you ever wondered if Bengals mingle well with other pets?
Absolutely! Bengals are the life of the pet party! They love hanging out with other cats and dogs. This social butterfly nature of theirs often leads their owners to consider buying a second Bengal kitten or another lively pet. After all, Bengals thrive in bustling households where there's always some paw-tastic action going on. They're not big fans of solitude, so they prefer having furry companions around.
Friendly with Kids
Just like humans, every Bengal is unique. But, one thing is consistent – early socialization plays a crucial part in their behavior. Here at Cali Bengals, we ensure that our Bengals grow in a comfortable, cage-free environment. We carry them around and give them ample social interactions – all this to ensure that they adapt well to young children. Consequently, Bengals make excellent family pets! So, if you're considering one for your family, you're on the right track!
Diet
Bengal cats don't necessarily need a unique diet, but it's important to note that the healthiest option for all felines is a raw food regimen. Why? Cats are natural carnivores, which means their bodies just aren't cut out for digesting grains, fruits, or veggies efficiently. Think of it like this - feeding them commercial dry or canned cat food is the equivalent of us humans munching on fast-food daily. Sure, it will keep them alive, but it's hardly the recipe for a healthy, lean body. When you welcome a Bengal kitten from Cali Bengals into your home, we'll provide a nourishing diet plan to ensure your feline friend stays in top shape.

Why are Cali Bengals Kittens Priced Higher than others?
Every one of our beautiful Bengals is proudly registered with The International Cat Association (TICA), as are their litters. This ensures you they're genuine Purebred Bengal cats and that we have the privilege to breed these majestic creatures.
Our adult Bengals undergo extensive testing to confirm they're in prime condition for breeding. As dedicated breeders, we make sure all our kittens receive their complete vaccinations and undergo deworming multiple times. This is to ensure that your kitten is in the best of health when he or she comes home with you. We also provide a health guarantee against congenital health defects because we genuinely care about our cats. If you have any questions or concerns after adoption, we're always here to lend a helping hand.
Please be aware, if you're considering a Bengal from a "breeder" who doesn't have TICA registered Bengals, you could be in for a nasty surprise. Without that registration, there's no certainty you're getting a true Bengal. Such breeders, often called "Backyard Breeders", are likely more interested in profit than in the health and integrity of the kittens they produce. Kittens from these operators may have unclear markings, lack the distinctive physical characteristics of Bengals and exhibit unusual behaviours. They aren't focused on enhancing the Bengal breed or producing top quality Bengals, like we are!
If you're planning to welcome a Bengal into your family, treating it with love and care for the next 15-18 years, make sure it's a TICA documented purebred Bengal. It's worth every penny!
The importance of getting a TICA Registered Bengal
Ensure you're getting the real deal. If your breeder doesn't have TICA registered Bengals, you might be in for a surprise. Bengals cats, coveted for their exotic looks, dog-like personality, and superior intelligence, are unique.
But beware! A 'Bengal' sans TICA registration may not possess these traits. You might end up with one having altered personality traits, untypical coloring, and possible health issues.
TICA, or The International Cat Association, is the world's biggest pedigree and household pet registry. Adhering to a strict ethical code, TICA keeps in check that no foul play happens in breeding. Violating these laws means expulsion for the breeders.
When a Bengal cat comes with a TICA registration, you get a guarantee of purebred. It holds a pedigree documentation tracing back to its original ALC mating. To own a purebred Bengal, it must be TICA registered.
